Idk but I have a feeling that the regret arc ain't gunna be satisfactory or very long at all, my hopes may be low but they are still there, wishing for Jk's prolonged suffering ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

If I had to speculate, he is probably thinking it's female now because the gestation period is longer than with males.
That said, she doesn't appear to be pregnant but that doesn't mean that she's not. Just watch any episode of I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant (US). Lol.
Plus of course we're assuming she has no period.
