Muu January 3, 2017 7:08 pm

so im on already on chapter 18, and there really doesn't seem to be much plot. Just a lot of sex, and slowly getting over his phobia. Does this manga ever get deeper, where there's more to the relationship then just smut? x:

    Anonymous January 3, 2017 8:44 pm

Well so far the manga has shown both shirotani and kurose's past as children dealing with trauma, so i'd say it does deal with some plot. It's been showing glimpses of it here and there and i'm sure as the manga goes on, we'll get the full story. (:

You're 'laughing' because I have an opinion, and you don't agree with it? Sure says something about your lack of maturity. I have read several yaoi that don't contain sex off of the bat, and if they do, there is much more to the story afterwards, and fewer sex scenes. I don't need to validate myself to you by listing all of the yaoi I've read that involve more plot than they do sex. And obviously, those are quite rare, and the majority of yaoi are similar to this one, where it's just non-stop smut, barely any backstory and whatnot. I asked the question that I did simply because I wished to know if this one was just like all of the other ones that, in my opinion, are only there to satiate fujoshi thirsts for smut, and apparently I was right. I'd rather not waste my time with it.

Perhaps go through my lists of what I'm reading, or have read, and you will see that most of them have a hell of a lot more plot than Ten Count does so far. Thank you, bye. :)

Never did I say that I don't want to read smut. What I said, apparently you skimmed over my response and completely missed it, was that I want to read smut that has A PLOT. And Yatamomo has that, a painful, angsty one. Yarichin and Caste Heaven are two of the few in my list that don't have much of a plot at all, but it's very amusing to think you glossed over those that did have plots, and selected those two simply to try and use it as an argument to defend your point.

And just to reiterate because I can't edit my last comment -- smut that has a /deep/ plot. And deep as in, the couple needs to overcome some huge psychological problems together in order to actually remain with each other in the end. My issue with Ten Count is that, being at chapter 18, I feel like there should be underlying chemistry between the two characters. All that I've seen happen so far is Shirotani slowly opening up to Kurose, who's basically just 'curing' him through sexual advances. It feels pretty cliche, and I don't typically read cliche manga. That is why I recommended my list to glimpse over, so that it would by easier to see that the manga I invest time in are not usually yaoi with a plot that drags on by meshing in sex. I prefer plot right off the bat, and me stating my opinion and asking a question as to whether or not the story gets much deeper does not, in any way, mean that I am 'throwing shit' at it. I never insulted it, so there's no reason why you should be getting offended.

There actually is a deep psychological aspect to 10 count. Throughout the first chapters we can see how Kurose is trying to help Shirotani and there is the list technique. Shirotani can't go through with this which is why the plot mellows down a bit. But I these latest chapters Kurose uses a flush technique (person with certain phobia is forced to do the thing that scares them/makes them uncomfotable because they are yearning to loose that phobia) where Shirotani is basically forced to feel unclean/dirty but he has wanted help. Also throughout the story you can see he has certain triggers because of his past and we see what triggered him at an early age. Kurose is understanding because he's studied this disorder, works in a psychological field, and has personally felt what Shirotani's loneliness is like, he loves every aspect about him, there is no better chemistry than that. 10 count is great at expressing the struggle and acceptance of a psychological disorder. Both characters are not cliche, Shirotani and Kurose have this special connection because of a psychological disorder; they're not just having sex, it shows the bottled up emotions that Shirotani feels, but is restrained because of the phobia.

I appreciate the level headed response. ;v; Most can't seem to do that nowadays. I did realize Kurose is using the flush approach to therapy, but I feel like there are so many other ways he could use the technique without pinning Shirotani down, and arousing him. It just was a little disappointing that the smut started at that point, when I would have liked to see their actual friendship develop further first. After all, by chapter 18 (the one I'm on), it's only been a month since they met I think? And there was just nothing in the story that required sex right then and there, but the mangaka added it in anyway.

Thus, when I said cliche, I meant that the archetype where Kurose's method of helping Shirotani get over his phobia becomes sporadic sex, when there wasn't even a need for the smut to start so soon, seems cliche. It would've been nice to see more interaction between the two of them first, several more meetings, more drama in those meetings and more backstory or flashbacks. Because eighteen chapters seems somewhat like a lot, but there was very little buildup whatsoever before Kurose came onto Shirotani.

It seemed, to me, that there wasn't enough romantic attraction between either of them yet. Maybe bottled up feeling of sexual desires and lust, because Shirotani's phobia even restricted him from experimenting with himself, but nothing so much that it would spark enough passion for the two of them to want to have sex. He met Kurose, who helped him write a list of things to work to get better at. Pushing Shirotani to have sex to 'cure' that with a flush technique felt sort of like an overused idea that is always common in the majority of yaoi, which was all I was saying. It just doesn't fit my standards of 'deep' or heavily filled with plot. That's why I asked my original question, if it gets more plot heavy in later chapters or not, because where I am right now, I'm not seeing much of it.

So while I respect your opinion, and you've every right to think what you will of it, I don't think this is a manga that will suit me. I may try to push through and read a bit more to see if it really does grow more intense, like you and another anonymous have told me, but at the pace it's moving at, I'm really not certain I can make it through another chapter.

I read trough all the replies and honestly it shouldn't matter what other people think, especially if you don't know the person. Everyone has there preferences and it's not something to blow up over. I do agree with Muu because I like stories that are more about the relationship growth between characters and with an interesting plot and not all about sex but some sex is goodლ(´ڡ`ლ) I do like ten count, and I read it all the way through and I want to see more about the characters.

I think I read through all the responses (I hope). I just figured I would drop in my opinion (feel free to ignore it). For me, while I agree that the smut definitely came in hard and fast in this story, it's a bit more forgivable than it might be in any other story. This is also partly due to the fact that it's kind of a bit of an S&M situation and Shirotani always manages to flip Kurose's switch. I would have definitely liked to see there be more bonding, even trivial, conversation in the early chapters (like you get in some of the extras), but it also makes a lot of sense character wise to me that the main emotional moments come later in the story. These two people don't come across as the types who let others in. Damn, I mean they're rarely honest with themselves. More conversation could have been had, but I think Kurose took a gamble on how he approached this, in part due to his own attraction, in the hopes that he could move towards a recovery more quickly while still retaining his position as the exception to Shirotani's mysphobia (I could be reading this completely wrong). The smut scenes kind of guide the audience through Shirotani's development, but also let him do some self-discovery. We do find out the source behind his mysphobia and what might have sparked Kurose's fixation. But I feel like we learn these things alongside the characters and when they are thinking about them (as it should be). In the latest chapter I feel like the story might be moving towards a place where both of them are comfortable enough with each other that they can have an intensely emotional conversation. The order of things is kind of reversed for how a relationship should progress, but given the characters it makes sense, at least for me.

Aaah, this is a great response! Thank you for adding your input. I also noticed an S&M type of relationship form between the two of them. I think I could have handled that better if there was, as you said, more bonding that occurred beforehand. After hearing all that you and another person have said, maybe I'll give it another chance! I'm glad you can relate to what I said to some degree; not sure why, but strong connections really make my heart flutter, and I love seeing that aspect of character growth. ;; But maybe I'll trust in your words that we see more romantic development later on, instead of just development spurred on by desire. Thanks again for actually answering my question, instead of bashing on me for holding a different opinion. I appreciate it! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

I definitely get what you're saying. I too look for yaoi with plot. Can't say I know as much about it as you do since I havent started that long with yaoi but with this story, I found the first part interesting and like you, I got put off when all the sex scenes came to play, but as the story progressed, it made me understand more on how impactful the sex actually was for this story as it plays with the character's background and how he came to be the way he is. I finished reading all the volumes up so far and I definitely don't regret continuing reading this. :)

i actually thought the same thing when i first started reading this manga- i thought it was just a bunch of sex and fujoshi 'fan service' which was really disappointing for me, but i stuck with it and i'm honestly really glad i did. the beginning is really just a bunch of 'foreshadowing' but with the past as opposed to the future. i saw you said earlier in a reply (from one of the few that actually answered you civilly) that you wouldn't mind the smut so much if it seemed there was actual reason for it, and i personally think that the 'reasoning' behind the smut actually makes sense later on in the story- not to give too much away, but shirotani's disorder is largely due to a trauma involving his sexuality. idk if kurose knew that at the beginning of the manga or not, but he also has his own reasons for wanting to be extremely close to shirotani that stems back to another trauma in HIS childhood (these poor boys had messed up childhoods ( ̄∇ ̄") )

obviously its up to you if you decide if you want to stick with it, but i would personally recommend you do if you want a story where the characters have to heal mentally in order to have a lasting relationship :D (also, if it helps, the smut kinda plateaus at a point in the manga, so the excessive smut stopped being an issue for me (or maybe i just thought it plateaued because of the wait in between chapters idk *_*))

Muu December 26, 2016 1:54 pm

honestly i couldn't like it. i never felt the romance between them actually blossom. It's a lovely concept, sure, and I'm glad the mangaka deviated away from the stereotypes. BUT I just feel unsatisfied, disappointed, and heavy-hearted.

"the FINAL chapter of ogeretsu tanaka's killer tune series" it says that at the beginning. it's really over guys, there isn't anymore. it ended just like that. im so. i cant even.

So I'm rewriting the story in my head bc I can't agree with an ending that depressing. In my perfect imagination, Akira was really in a coma, and his spirit simply left his body. In the end, Haruto goes to visit his body in the hospital, sings him the song, Akira wakes up and they live happily ever after.

Some people are saying that the possibility of Yamato and Yuiji becoming a couple seems slim?? But I just want to point out that one, this is made by a mangaka who wrote several other stories with male x male couples, on top of the fact that there are so many indications pointing towards the two of them liking each other that I just don't get how anyone could think otherwise. oAo;

I'm not certain, but if this story is like all this mangaka's other ones, the two of them will definitely, without a doubt, become a couple.

    Raynal Payuk December 18, 2016 1:48 am

Probably people once in a while just want to read the story where the 2 main character dont end up as couple and more realistic outlook on straight guy and gay guy friendship.

    supremecurt December 22, 2016 10:01 am

Maybe people are just questioning the possibility because of the extremely slow build. I love this pace though, you get to know the characters bit by bit.

Muu December 14, 2016 9:45 am

I really like this, but at the same time, I feel like it would come across better if the mangaka stayed with only one perspective -- Yuki's. x: That way things wouldn't get so jumbled and confusing; makes my head ache a little. I also really hope for Tetsu x Yuki as a couple.
