So i just finished the novel and its soo damnn good but im unsure if I should watch the Chinese drama or the anime version of this because as ive heard some major scenes are different so how are they

I suggest you watch the drama. It's reallllly well done. But the thing is you have to watch with the mindset that it is a different story. Just pretend it's not really an adaptation but a totally different story then we are good to go...I actually really love CQL and think it's one of the best Cdramas ever made seriously

I really love the drama! the cast is really good, the plot is well-done and the music is stunning...

This is a really good advice: i was getting really mad at the drama for not being faithful to the original material, but I know changes have to be done in different medias (also, it becomes more. I'm glad to know the drama is just as good and I'll keep watching it.

Try the audio drama next, I think it's the most accurate to the novel and has so much dept for something with just sounds. Manhua and the drama are my least favourite adaptations. If the manhua had HOB artstyle, I might have put it next to audio drama. Drama did some parts of the novel on godlevel, some were a big meh like the beginning of it. It is loosely based but I can't lie that I liked what they served us. But we should be happy they didn't went with WWX/WQ like they planned!

Also, Donghua season 1 is amazing, it has the kind of atmosphere I got while reading the novel, just not too extreme due to censorships. Season 2.....well it happened. I ranked this my third favourite after the audio drama.

And like the drama im still not sure about it like maybe people have overhyped it and it annoys me to no end that the romace is more like a bromance

It's one of the reasons why Wen Qing had so much screen time. The author and fans made a big fuss over the news and the drama directors scrapped the idea. I also really hate the drama WQ, annoys me to hell and back. Novel WQ was like the fierce caring big sister everyone needs. Its stuff like this that I couldn't finish the drama

I like the anime version more it's more faithful to the plot but the romance is dialed waaaaay down. Plus everyone looks extra cool in it lol. The drama was good but it's like the other comment said it's pretty different still decent but they change a lot around

WQ in the novel was a perfect character like i hoped that the drama or the anime version would fix some things like for example wwx and his brother fixing their relationship in the end and not leave it like unresolved like they did in the novel and i hoped that WQ would survive somehow

One of the reasons i am thinking of watching the anime version is because every single character looks amazing but the fact they the romance is so censored pisses me off

The live action is pretty good imo I'm watching it again rn lol but they mix up the plot a lot and tbh I was surprised actually I mean I can see the romance hella clearly lol its very low key but those expressions and longing stares make it super obvious lol I'm enjoying the shit out it. Its 50 episodes on netflix

Lol, to be quite honest the bromance thing didn't annoy me as much so far in the drama because they still made them preeeeetty gay (at least as much as they could while still being able to say "they're just VERY good friends :>"). I mean every time someone mentions marriage to WWX he just looks hella uncomfortable, like "sis, not gonna happen". xD
It was like watching those queerbaiting tv shows (*coughcough*sherlock/supernatural/supergirl*coughcough*), but actually /knowing/ these characters are meant to be together and you're not crazy for once.

Tbh only other audio dramas I've listened were smut ones XD But MDZS one is truly an art and the songs are fantastic.

Right?? They keep flirting, touching each other, and as you said /the lingering looks/!!! Honestly, that's what's keeping me from dropping the drama (which is weird, i know, but I'm seriously enjoying how their relationship is portrayed).

Lol right? And those soft smiles and long stares, constant touching I mean you have to be blind/hella straight not to get it lol. I love their relationship. It's so obvious to me that lan zhan is crushing hard and wei ying may not be aware hes crushing but hes totally obsessed with lan zhan its wonderful I love untamed. And I'm not against wen quin (sp?) In the drama but I didnt like her all that much probably cuz they tried to make her a love interest for Jiang cheng and wei ying. She was more badass in the novel. I enjoyed and am enjoying for the 2nd time the drama. Lan zhan is so efn beautiful lol and wei ying is exactly how I imagined he'd be XD

I loved her in the novel she was that badass big sister, kick your ass type girl. In the drama she wasnt like weak or anything but she wasnt my favorite. As far as girls go in the novel my favs are a-Qing for being badass, madame yu (in the anime she is even more awesome lol), wen qing for badassery and of course Yangli (I died in a puddle of tears when stuff happened) I loved that girl to bits and pieces in every efn version.

I would say that my favs were wen Qing, Yangli and MianMian.. I thought MAdan Yu was some but I hated her for being so mean with WX...

Shes definitely a difficult, abrasive woman but idk I loved how badass/lioness protecting her den type she was. I understood her as a character and yea she was mean and cranky but imo I dont think she actually hated or truly blamed wei ying. She was never actually cruel to him and she saved his life when she could have let him die which I think she would have done if she truly hated him. I think she was just frustrated since she couldnt help herself from comparing him and Jiang cheng, and comparing herself to Cangse Sanren. Problem is no one compares to wei ying so unfortunately jiang cheng never rly had a shot. At the end of the day I think madame Yu loved her family, we ying included but that's just my conjectures

Well, Madam Yu was certainly toxic, I felt worse about the way she treated Jiang Cheng tbh, like always hinting at how he wasn't enough and all that (I think that certainly helped him feel so insecure). But still, I feel that in the end she was just a very complex character and that despite everything she cared for those around her a lot specially her son, so I warmed up to her quite a bit (specially because she's the sort of female character we don't get very often, I thought she was refreshing).

Oh in all honesty she is the sole reason Jiang cheng is all sorts of messed up with a massive inferiority complex. Despite liking her construction I definitely detested how mean she was and how she basically ruined her son. I mean every issue in Jiang Cheng's life has roots in her inability to accept him as he is. I feel so bad for Jiang ngl, honestly, he's just gona have issues for the rest of his life especially after he found out about certain things >.< hes already an abrasive person with his mother's temperament but add to it all that low self esteem ugh. Poor bby. I wish he and wei ying could have resolved their issues better at the end of the novel, made me sad that they didnt rly air it all out. I feel like they're never going to meet somewhere in the middle which just makes me even sadder. Like rly sad, they both loved/cared/sacrificed so much for each other pre-reincarnation. Just doesnt feel right that their relationship ended the way it did. :/

I guess that now that I´m reading the novel, I´ll be able to understand her better. I felt that did not explain her with details in the drama. I also would like to see more of her maids, they were so badass in the drama!

I know what you mean about JC and WWX I felt really sad that they care so much for each other and ended up so bad. I was angry with CJ for even thinking of killing WWX

The best part about the novel (other than smexy times rofl) is all the details that flesh everything out. Everything is like so much more in the novel; more depth, more intricate, more emotion, more atmosphere etc. All the other mediums do great with the major points and ppl but they all miss the amazing amount of detail that the author puts in and yea best bros ever r lan zhan and xichen <3. I love xichen....ngl XP

Like madam yu was a badass but also kind of a bad mother sometimes her own insecurities (which okay are understandable) she reflected on her son and thats why JC is the way he is and one detail that I absolutely HATED IN EVERY DAMN ADAPTATION was the fact that they didn’t fix WX and JC relationship like soo unfair they deserved so much better

It was very unnecessary in the book for the author not to fix whatever happened between them like really fix it not just like “its been so long im sorry forget about it” even in the drama IT WAS ONE DETAIL I WOULD HAVE LOVED IF THEY CHANGED IT

After watching that come to jesus moment btw them in the drama it felt better resolved and more hopeful so I felt better about it all in the end but it's still sad to me. ╮(￣.￣)╭

Yeah, i'm really hoping that it's going to stay away from the cliches. The plot is certainly thickening, i have high hopes for that.

@Dudehi and Jazz: it was Ripened Expression. The plot was developing the relationship between two characters, then the ending was rushed and the mc ended up with another guy. I felt cheated. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
