The art style changed because the artist was outed as a pedophile who would draw and reblog child p*rn arts. This went on hiatus for a long time due to that scandal. I guess the author then just wanted to wrap this up asap after finding a new artist. Just be glad it got an ending, because I just found out the author continued after all that debacle to get it done. I thought it was on a hiatus still.
