You don't know if you're seeing a friendly pet dog who there to help you, or a wild wolf who is there is attack you. It's the predicament that the uke finds himself in. He doesn't know whether the people who are offering to help him are friends or enemies.

I forgot to add that that's why you see panels of the seme and the glasses guy with light behind them. It's how the uke sees them. He doesn't know whether they are wild wolves or friendly dogs, so to speak, and whether he should trust them or not. Sometimes what appears to be a predatorial wolf is actually a trustworthy protective dog, and vice versa.
