personally this trope is overused and outdated ( not that it was ever okay ) if the whole point after this was js to make aaron a “ red flag “ its soo forced. Making a character unnecessarily evil doesnt make them a complex character or the plot any better. As for your take, you cant expect people to stop reading an entire genre or desensitise them because “99% are like that” thats js not okay it might be fiction but fiction affects reality and the more your comfortable with this idea of rape being okay because its common it just makes you weird. Alot of yaoi isnt like that and most start off okay and just randomly include rape which doesnt even make the story better. Its not peoples fault for complaining about it, Authors should be more original and less insensitive.
Honestly tbh in my head this was inline for Aaron because through the entire series he is very obsessive, though it was shocking to see it happen really quick. However there is also another section of BL there almost no SA and have very good in depth characters, to me majority of the time. I can understand a good story that was very good and then turning to shit such has “Scammed and Rammed”, but knowing most Yaoi are SA, blackmail and rape why should someone continue to read this genre? Can I ask for more of your take/opinion cause I think you make some good points?
I like your point there, you are absolutely right about how fiction affects reality. I personally think things like rape or SA should be less romanticize in Yaoi and should focus on the ptsd of the victim and how they can over come it such like “Missing Love”. Where I had to stop reading and literally cry for the victim cause it was so bad.
Also wouldn’t it be better to tell people to go a genre that has less Rape and SA in so to not desensitize people because eventually if people keep reading yaoi knowing the SA within them, wouldn’t desensitize them either way? Should that also apply to media like violent games, true crime, horror game, social media, all of these desensitized people.
I definitely agree but i think ur wording was completely off, manwhas that include rape purely for fun and romanticisation and no physiological aspects of it shouldn’t be normalised reading, if you can differentiate between the difference from when its needed in a story and when its not then and that it cannot be justified in real life then its okay. My point was that people still have the right to read yaoi and complain about the traditional way its written, just because rape is normalised in yaoi culture doesnt mean it should be continued to be. But i do agree that you should stay away from the genre if you dont want to be exposed to the risks of reading it.
