The thing is, you can help but 100% root for Maria because this evil kids aren't even morally gray characters, they are straight bad people who deserve the worst of the worst (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
I'm starting to think that, as a reader, the true drama and horror of this story is how weirdly comforting the revenge scenes are ( ̄∇ ̄"). Like you could wish there was a better "Justice" in wich Maria wouldn't have to dirt her hands but, since that is not the case, you just hope she succeeds. In my case, books or any general media with violence and gore usually mean a hard time for me since it makes me super uncomfortable, but when it comes to revenge stories like this one I'm like "YAAASSS QUEEN SLAAAAAAY" but right after that I'm like "why am I so fine reading/watching this?" lmao.
Objectively, I can't call Maria a good person, but since in this story the right side of justice is so weak and corrupted, she somehow represents the 'I just want the good people to win' in its closest but most distorted form.

At the end of the day, they were teenagers making bad decisions, which is sad because one could think that maybe many of their problems could have been solved (in some ways) if they had a proper support system and actually responsible adults around to guide them. They were just teenagers making stupid decisions, but we can't deny that there's some true in how experiencies and backgrounds play a significant role in shaping someone as a person. Don't take me wrong tho, I hope there's no redepmtion arc for Kamiki because he still needs to be held accountable for his crimes. But this new chapter lowkey made me feel sad thinking about how all the bad things that happened to him and Ai played a part in their development as individuals. Kids need to be protected. Always.
Funny chapter, eh... as Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle once said:
"I expect nothing, and I'm still let down"
