Shouldn't he say something like I'll stay or love you despite being disappointed or something, like you'd be disappointed if someone does something disappointing. Nothing wrong with that, it's not something you can and should control. It's the actions after the disappointment, that should be where the assurance is. Thus promising not to break up despite many disappointments. Like if you trained your dog not to shit on the carpet and they still did it, you'd be disappointed at them but you wouldn't throw them out, it's not like you can NOT be disappointed after seeing shit on your carpet like what.
