I've read this before and just reread it and I realized that if Zay didn't push for Aseph to be saved as a 5 year old, he would've died there and he wouldn't have suffered countless awful things over and over. She did "give him his life" technically, but his life was fucked after that, honestly. Not to mention, there were zero assurance that the goddess would take pity on her again. For me, these annoyed me. But oh well, since it ended well, idk congrats. ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
