I do think at some level he knows how fucked up his relationship with the chairman is. As an orphan who grew up in the streets and literally had nothing, Mookyul really put the chairman on a pedestal. He saved him. I’m not sure if you’ve read the author’s explanation on Mookyul and chairman’s relationship but Mookyul accepted that this (sleeping with the chairman, barf) is the only way he can gain the affection and build a connection with his so-called father (who was became obsessed with Mookyul). He wanted the love from a parent; he so badly wanted a family so he went along with it because in his mind, since the chairman is his “father” any love from him is still considered a “parental” love (even tho it’s obviously not). He doesn’t know any better because he had nothing/no other parent to compare to. And he defends it because he doesn’t want to lose his family.
I agree tho that it leaves a bad taste, especially because they didn’t really tackle the issue and the resolution is vague. When he signed the adoption paper, he became a legal son. So what? Is the chairman’s feelings for him gone just like that? How is Ewon sure Mookyul and the chairman won’t go back to the way they were?
I totally I agree with you that he is a victim and doesn’t know any better but I wished we could have gotten like you said some sort of resolution and the seme with therapy and the chairman in jail over all that kind off ruins the story for me :(
I don’t think the chairman will ever go to jail for it 1) because he’s rich and powerful, and 2) because Mookyul still considers chairman family. That’s more of a wishful thinking on our part.
However, the fact that the Mookyul chose Ewon over him and that the chairman will evidently die alone (he will never marry and have a family so as to not risk Mookyul’s inheritance) because he fucked up his relationship with his only remaining family (Mookyul) can be considered his punishment.
And yes, Mookyul and Ewon too badly needs therapy. I can only hope and dream that they eventually develop a healthier relationship in the future bc they obviously have a dysfunctional one in the manhwa (⌒▽⌒)
