The duke is a devil worshipper remember the chapter where a vision/dream came to hilda where she is a sacrificed (is that right?) and Adrian's last line solidifies it. Also a question are satan and adrian a separate entity/soul or they are becoming one since there are scenes where Adrian's addressing a 3rd person assuming that's the real adrian.
