I started reading this wheat it had 16 chapters, and it really felt like it had a clear kind of goal of two kids exploring the supernatural and whatnot kind of like a slice of life. But now, I don’t really understand what the « red string » tying all of these small stories is. Each arc a new set of characters get introduced, they have a sad backstory, they get helped, they get some character development and get added to the « gang » but then they kind of get left behind for the new introductions to the new characters. I like the characters and their story, and the lore is really interesting with the rules/explanations and it’s nice that the story has a somewhat clear coupling situation going on. I just feel like we’ve kind of lost the plot of aliens-spirits and I can’t help but wonder if the author really has a plan. Maybe a big end fight? Against aliens and spirits? I feel like that would just get boring though. What do you guys think? (=・ω・=)
in one of the further chapters, the main characters did theorize that maybe the reason that the aliens haven't fully invaded the earth yet despite their intelligence, technology, and power was because of all the yokais/spirits on earth. i don't know if that's going to be the actual red string to tie everything together but the thought of it was pretty fucking cool!
It started so nicely and it seemed original but it’s actually like every « second chance » manhwa out there where the story just relies on misunderstandings to milk 900 chapters out of the plot. This entire story wouldn’t have happened if the mc wasn’t naive and if the ml wasn’t so sensible and if the two just had one(1) single correct conversation. I don’t intend to read this any longer
I believe her to be much too close minded, she has misunderstood every single thing Ian did for her during 6 years of relationship. She does not seem to have once considered him as a human being with a past, and a tragic one at that, and only demonizes the things he does.
Not only that, she acts much to rashly, and is just generally not smart about the fact that she is given a second chance. She does not help her father, she does not have a plan about her future and seemingly she doesn’t even think about the future and is just stuck on the « in my past life.. ».
I usually like the «second life » trope but I often find the female leads to be much too naive or to be in the stereotype of the « girlbossy » rebellious noble daughter. This one seems like the perfect mix, or rather the worst of both worlds. She is air-headed, but puts on airs of being a pro manipulator for some reason. I hope the manhwa is different from the novel, because she does not get smarter in it.
Which comic are you reading exactly?!
First of all, Ian ignored and was cold to her for years with little explanation or communication. What was she supposed to think? Their relationship only improved because she took the initiative to really go the extra mile to try to interact with him. He does say very gruff and cold things repeatedly. Is she supposed to be a magical genius who can tell that he actually cares when he does not confirm it through his words or actions. When he makes kind gestures like finding Cory or sharing the books she does begin to realize that he cares about her. The issue is not that she misunderstands, but that he doesn’t give proper indicators of his affection. He basically kept her locked up for years and barely spoke to her. Of course she would think he disliked her.
It’s true that she didn’t understand his trauma, but she was a previously sheltered lady, people know less about mental illness in that time period, and even if it was well known, how would she be able to understand what he’s going through if he spends most of his time declining to interact with her. She tried many times to “be a good wife” and support her husband, and try to get to know him. It takes two to have a relationship, and Ian never wanted to participate. He ignored her for literally years whenever she tried to start a conversation or get to know him. How is that her fault?
She absolutely did try to help her father. She forced him not to invest in the doomed wine business and tried to curtail his reckless spending, but he kept spending anyway. He invested recklessly in another doomed trade venture behind her back. What more was she supposed to do? It’s clear that her father lacks the financial sense to maintain or grow his wealth, and he does not listen to her advice or acknowledge his problems. She bailed him out once with her knowledge of the future, but he just ended up in the same position with a different foolish investment. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t force it be more reflective and not to make shitty investments
On top of that, his plan to recover was basically to sell her off without a care in the world. He was selfish in his first life for killing herself and leaving her completely alone, destitute, and vulnerable, and he’s the same in this life for trying to leverage her marriage to bail out his own incompetence. Then when she refused to be sold he abandoned her, and then showed up to leech off of her when he thought she still had a chance with Ian. Why would she give any more help to someone who willfully refuses to acknowledge their failings and views her as nothing more as an asset to sell off when the times get rough?
She does try to plan for the future, she just doesn’t have a lot of options. She’s a noblewoman who was very sheltered, then basically imprisoned in her first life. She really doesn’t have any marketable skills or experience. She tries to educate herself, but she’s playing catch-up in a big way. She also has no money left for other education, but she makes it work by becoming a nurse. It was probably the best course of action. Since they’re so needed, every institution is desperate to train and employ more nurses during wartime. Once the war ended she would have sufficient training to either get a full time nursing job or get into a more thorough training program.
She is definitely hung up on the relationship, but it’s really just that she’s an excessively empathetic person. If she had ever actually hated him, she wouldn’t have tried to save everyone in his life. She prevented Isabel from making a reckless decision that would lead to her death, which prevented Eric from going onto the frontline where he would have died. She never actually wanted to leave him, she just wanted to have a good relationship with Ian, and that carried over into her second life. She’s not a “master manipulator”, she just tries to warn people about the terrible things that happened to them in her first life.
Is she a “girl boss” because she has a job? She’s a fallen noble, so she had to work no matter what. She has a basic but important job, but it’s not like she’s raking it in or building a business empire. She’s completely alone, but her only friend Isabel offered her a good job, so of course she would want to accept instead of working somewhere she was a complete stranger.
ch 100
I'VE??? I'VE WHAT??????????????
ughhhh I know the author is making it look like a confession for shits and giggles and cheol will probably say something dumb like 'i've thought you should cut your hair'
man I love this but it is SUCH a slow burn my god!!!
we're 100 chapters in and we barely have some blush going on between them come on!!!
This is so slow paced but at the same time it makes sense for this to be such a slow burn because the mcs are young and learning to communicate but at the same time I want all of them to be happy NOW but at the same time since this is such a well written manga with realistic flawed characters it makes sense for them to take so long to make progress because real life growth takes time but at the same time uuugghhhhhhh
