in simple terms, butch is a label that some lesbians identify with because they present masculine :) on the other hand femme would refer to a lesbian that presented femininely
though in real life i’d say not all masculine or feminine lesbians just automatically identify with these labels because theres a whole culture built around theses labels, theres many more aspects to it— it’s a very interesting part of lesbian history actually
