Yes there is the dead sister bit but otherwise this sort of thing can happen. It’s not uncommon for childhood friends to be considered children of their own to both sets of parents. So while some may find it awkward since they aren’t blood related it’s technically not taboo

Definitely, doctors would have reported that and Ilyan's custody would have been revoked because of child abuse at least, since the guy has money probably would've avoided going to jail but still lost custody
