Theory on Akutagawa

I’m pretty sure Akutagawa’s still alive since when Tachihara knew he was going to turn into a vampire he tried to kill himself and the commander stopped him. (Ch. 90) Why would you need to stop him if not only for the fact that you can’t turn someone once they’re dead?

With all the characters that had turned I doubt the story will play out with all the turned-vampires dead, that’s why I think Akutagawa will continue to live—that is, at least until he dies of his sickness.

(though he may have been aiming to cut his head off) but if not, then Akutagawa might still be alive if everything coincides without any loopholes.
But~! The commander did say “Do I give the impression of a murderer for pleasure or some such?” In response to Tachihara’s “Kill me.” Not exactly an “I won’t kill you,” but it’s close enough. So I’m assuming that my theory still stands.
