guwon killing his dad is the TRUTH. it's not jinwoo making it up. everyone needs to go back and re-read chapter 0, starting on pg. 57. the man who says, "look what i found," is his dad. it aligns with chapter 24, where we receive further context on why the "random stranger" was in his the house and why guwon killed him.
it appears to me that guwon is actually smarter than he looks. he may be ignorant, but he's definitely not dumb. he applies the knowledge jinwoo gives immediately, and in a sick and twisted way, he uses it to his own benefit. this chapter tells me that guwon:
a) knows how to lie
b) weaponizes information
c) is manipulative
it's fucked up too lol bc homeboy knew this entire time he killed this man's father and withheld the information to "surprise" him. he flipped it on his head by using jinwoo's words against him, which is very smart and calculating. when guwon doesn't bid him goodbye before he heads out with doc, it just shows just how crazy he is bc he KNEW.
again, guwon says he didn't want to kill the doc, but he shows no restraint. one can say that he had no choice, but that's not entirely true. he held restraint when telling jinwoo that he killed his dad & plotted on telling him at the right time to surprise him. why can't he do the same for everyone else within the town?
imo, he doesn't value their lives. i have no idea as to why he continues to protect them, but it's interesting how he goes against his own rules when he's being selfish (i.e. stalking jinwoo instead of guarding the town, killing people based on how he feels, killing the doc who is a valuable asset to the group, etc).
lastly, guwon putting the ring back on jinwoo's finger telling him to never take it off seems like a threat. his happy demeanor allows him to skirt past certain allegations, but it's very clear that he's threatening jinwoo and reminding him who he belongs to.
i like problematic MMCs, so ofc i'm here for the mess lol. i'm not delusional tho. he stalks jinwoo, then threatens him lmaoooo. this man will be very toxic in the future. i think he'll be similar to caesar, where he has a very anxious attachment style and behind his bravado is a man who will go above and beyond to ensure jinwoo stays by his side even if he has to sacrifice the village to do so.

the backstory on the hounds is… interesting. it’s giving cult. if that is the case, the townspeople, jinwoo included, might be in danger in the future. also, the doctor mentioned the outsiders who insulted the hounds… where are they now? is it possible that the hounds got rid of them?
this kind of goes against what guwon was preaching about when he decided to follow them. hopefully, he can give us a good reason as to why, bc if not, it’s a major character flaw.
if guwon is all about survival and efficiency, then this isn’t particularly efficient. it’s selfish. again, it would call into question guwon killing the little boy’s father for stealing medicine. the group is everything, so their needs comes first. following dr. lim & jinwoo negates the group & puts his (guwon’s) needs/feelings first. mido deserves NOTHING! i just don’t understand why the mangaka made his character so irredeemable if she was going to give him “salvation” in the end. he never reflects, repents, or does the necessary work to show us genuine change. even if he did, it STILL wouldn’t be enough. you wanna know why? bc, he is a COWARD. a SELF-HATING LOSER in every sense of the word. pathetic hubris of a man who doesn’t even deserve to breathe the same air jichan breathes.
take him spotting jichan for example. this DUMBASS sees jichan in passing, and he automatically thinks that he’s living life comfortably without him. he then plots his revenge against him for “abandoning” him. not once did mido put himself in jichan’s shoes. it never occurred to him to simply talk to the man and tell him how he felt.
no… mido decides to assault, rape, and mock jichan and his efforts in finding mido. yes, the same mido who decided to hurt jichan bc he thought he wasn’t looking for him. to make matters worse, this disgusting piece of fucking shit breaks jichan’s ankle bc he gets scared of him leaving once he finally reveals that he was actually mido this entire time.

additionally, the mangaka is so selfish, she practically flips the script on its head by slowly turning the finger onto jichan. mind you, jichan has taken accountability for his actions. in every chapter, he steps up to the plate and faces his issues head-on. for whatever reason, the mangaka forces jichan to, once again, bear the brunt of the responsibility for most of the characters in the book. whether it be mido’s brokenness or the old geezer telling him not to run away from the organization (as if he’s ever been ashamed of being a gangster), jichan has to account for EVERYBODY’S feelings but his own.
the message highlighted in this toxic shitty manga is that if you don’t love yourself like mido, it’s ok, bc strong-willed men like jichan can fix you. it doesn’t matter how much suffering and abuse you put them through, bc a simple “i’m sorry” and passionate sex will heal those wounds.
i love jichan so much, and to see him not only suffer through abuse but also deal with everybody’s toxic emotions truly put me over the edge. i’m not always shaken up by fucked-up stories, but this one really struck a chord.
anyway, it’s such a shame this story went the route it did, bc it had so much potential. we could’ve gotten a story about love, redemption, guilt, finding family, etc. mido’s abandonment issues were interesting due to him not having a family, so his angry feelings towards jichan not being there was valid. the mangaka could’ve explored his psyche and presented us with a flawed character who eventually learns to love himself. mido’s co-dependency is relatable to many, and if done well, the readers could learn more about themselves through his eyes.
but no, all we got was this slop, which sucks. an intriguing story wasted on unnecessary abuse and rape. smh.

bruh…. reading this book is like getting a lobotomy, but still achieving a good quality of life despite that. i feel confused half the time, and the way the story is told is quite jarring and abrupt.
nonetheless, it’s super entertaining to read, and i genuinely like the characters. they have amazing chemistry, and you can tell they care about each other a lot.
unfortunately, i had cut it short with this story tho bc i realized they were going to be in that cave for a long time. i don’t have the time nor patience. maybe i’ll come back to this story in the future, when i’m not as frustrated with its development.
