I thought they were first cousins. We're Lorraine's mom and the Empress not sisters? But they said 6th cousins so I'm confused...

The empress and Lorraine mother are cousins not sisters* but I believe it mentioned that they grew up close like sisters.

I know and I also know that in the time and place where they currently are, it would be more likely for them to go by that than anything else, but knowing the reason we put restrictions to second cousins or more *coughgeneticscough* it really wiggs me out.
