yes it is bad. I understand that him going through a fucked up time in past wasn't in his control, but just because he went through that doesn't justify what he's done to chiwoo. He had control over what he chose to do to chiwoo and he chose to be abusive, manipulative and not respect chiwoo as a person. If jihyun really loved chiwoo then he would respect the fact that chiwoo wasn't happy with him.
