Before almost no one commented about it or breached the parasocial relationship to tell authors about it like today. Also not many people used to read manga, manhwa or manhua in comparison to now, much less bl, people just recognized the work as fiction and didn't dwell too much on it, now is more popular and seen as cool to read manga and watch anime, so pedo topic is been criticized even in YouTube channels.
