Now I understand why Empresses are often vengeful and malicious. They're bound to a person without any assurance if they will love them back and they can't divorce them either. Divorcing means death and they can't live in peace because someone's always out to get them. Maybe that's why most of them decided to challenge the Emperor for power. If they can't that fulfillment from the Emperor's affection then why won't they desire power and surround themselves with their achievements? Emperesses are really powerful women huh... They can choose not to rely on a man if just will it.
