Y'all don't read good manga and it shows. That trope is common in every genre having romantic themes, you just gotta dig deeper for the good ones.

Young Black Jack, never have seen anyone talk about it and the art/animation is amazing IMO. I guess you kinda have to know the original black jack manga/anime to want to watch it and it's a little depressing lol.
