I have never commented a negative opinion on anything digitally before, but everytime I read an update of this work, I torture myself to read the newest comments everytime. And every time I find myself rolling my eyes.
1. Guys, just to you know, if it wasn’t obvious enough, that the ML and FL end up together. If you don’t like that, DON’T READ IT. The amount of comments saying “I hate him, he should die” and “I don’t care about his back story, I don’t like him. He’s unredeemable” is just so silly. Like guys, I think it’s an unwritten rule that the couple on the cover of a manhwa will 99.99% be end game. If you don’t like him and genuinely hate him then why are you reading it? I’m very serious, I would like to know a reasonable answer.
2. This is a work of angst. It’s suppose to be sad and depressing. One or both of the characters are suppose to do something horrible to the other and the whole point of the story is for them to make up. I know a lot of people don’t like angst, very valid, but some of us do . I think this work is very well structured in making me feel sad and I honestly prefer sad/angsty stories rather than fluffy/cute ones. So DON’T READ THIS IF YOU DON’T LIKE ANGST.
3. The manhwa doesn’t do a good job portraying it as much as the novel but the father of the FL is, let’s just say, comparable to Hitler in their world. Now it is obvious that the daughter is not like the father, but ignorance has a limit. If you have ever had a strong political opinion about something but another person is like “oh I don’t know like politics and anything about that haha, it’s not my interest” then I think you would be annoyed as well. For example, if you are a pro-choice women and your women friend is like “oh yeah, I don’t really keep up with the abortion political and all that, it’s not important to me haha” then would you or would you not be infuriated? It’s like if Hitler had a daughter and she was like “yeah, didn’t know that people were dying and my father was doing all that, oopsies.” Like WHAT? Everyone in the world is suffering and putting yourself in a happy ignorant bubble is gonna make people angry. Do I think she deserved to be treated and forced to keep married to him? No. Do I think he is a red flag? Yes. But do I think y’all can cut him some slack? Definitely.
To reiterate so I am not offending anyone. I don’t think his backstory or any amount of trauma justifies making someone else’s life miserable to the point that they become depressed. I just like to torture myself and read stories that make me cry and if he was a nice guy, I wouldn’t be crying.
I made a comment few weeks ago on how I genuinely start tweaking when I read the comments on this manhwa. I understand many people may not like the main character of a story, but that should not be the whole determinant for how good a work is. You’re going to find characters you don’t like, this applies to main characters as well. If you really dislike a character then the next step is to stop reading the work, because we obviously all have our own tastes and feel most comfortable reading stuff that we personally like…Which is why I am always baffled when people who dislike the ML so much still read this. Y’all are saying he is not redeemable and that you don’t care about him, but ur still reading this despite the fact that they are going to end up together. Why?!? Stop torturing yourselves and the readers that do enjoy this work .
With that being said, Jeiisuu pointed out that people blame others for hardships all the time and it’s true. I think the torture he experienced (from what we have read so far) is enough to drive any sane person insane. Hopefully none of you all have been tortured but it alters a person in ways that we can’t explain sometimes. No, it’s not an excuse but it’s so wild to see people not care that he actually went through all that. He did it, in his mind, for her. So many people are just ignoring how psychologically oriented this work is .
As Moltantalo also stated, many people praise Annette so blindly. I know y’all be hating on rich people in real life. Think of all the nepo babies… That’s how the public and Heiner viewed Annette. Now, we get to see that Annette is actually kinda and lovable but think back to high school English on the concept of dramatic irony. We as the audience obviously see stuff that the characters do not. We can literally see how Annette starts to learn about the reign of her father (who in their world is a horrible dictator) and also how Heiner learns more about her. Y’all can’t hate on rich people in real life and then glorify Annette .
Anyways, I personally can not wait to see their development as BOTH OF THEM can improve as character.
