I had similar thoughts. Ke Mo in the manhua gives me just the right desert-country-vibes, could be a bona fide trader or businessman from the Gobi desert. In comparison, the donghua took the liberty (which is totally fine since TGCF is firt of all a novel, not a manhua) to reenterpret some character designes. And following this logic, for me, the donghua Ban Yue is much more on the point because they grasped very well her skinny nature, being small, nothing like a true Banyue citizen. BUT her ceremonial outfit in the manhua again is much more beautiful and impactful than in the donghua. But after all, I'm really satisfied with both works, they interpret the novel in two different way at some aspects visually speaking (●'◡'●)ﾉ
