The rape and pedophilia wasn’t forgiven or seen as a good thing, all parties are just so fucked up and traumatized that their abuse causes them to feel for their abuser. Both the main character and the “pedo” fell in love with the men who raped them as children because they truly loved them as kids and didn’t know it was wrong and blamed themselves for the relationship collapsing
It’s not apologism just because they get together in the end - it’d be apologism if they were a happy perfect couple despite that or if it wasn’t shown as wrong. But rape and pedophilia were shown as very wrong and the end relationship wasn’t even portrayed as truly healthy/happy so. Idk.
It annoys me when a dark psychological story that isn’t apologism gets labeled as apologism, but actual rape apologism in stories where the victim is portrayed as in the wrong or needing to get over it etc. don’t get as much flack
