Ugh thank god for Mei Gui. I thought she was gonna be like the sister in An Easy Target and I was about to drop the story. But she seems. Rational. Poor Chung. Can't wait until he gets away from there. (I hope Sho Wang dies or goes to prison or something). I hope she also maybe helps Sha Hu Rong work on his possessive issues. ^^;;
Guys... yall... the jaguar is literally a rapist. He raped the black jaguar. I’m pretty sure we already knew that but it’s even more cemented here. And the second time he “asked” for sex, it was to try and keep him from
killing the human, not just him asking for sex to have sex.
Like. “uwu the jaguar is in love” yeah with the dude he raped. Black jaguar would be better off with someone else, but i know that’s not gonna happen unfortunately.
jlkfdasjl I never ended up writing the follow up but "they're animals bro" is a horrible excuse. Did we read the same story? Why are we drawing the line at "don't romanticize rape" and not... literally ANYTHING else about the story? Really?
I study animals. I know this shit. Y'all are the ones who are really this mad at people pointing out writing flaws - and mad that people aren't ok with how y'all treat it, romanticize it.
"The jaguar is literally a rapist" do you see now? In this case, we are talking about ANIMALS. Dont humanize the animals in THIS case. This story is only using humanized characters for the sake of yaoi and all that "rape" logic doesn't have to apply because it's supposed to reflect the ANIMAL KINGDOM. Consent sure as hell doesn't appear at all in the wild.
Firstly... saying "consent sure as hell doesn't appear in the wild" is a GROSS oversimplification of a complicated issue. Consent, in the way we think of it, isn't the same in the animal kingdom. However, the fact is rape exists in the wild. We distinguish rape from other sex acts in the wild. As these are acts where an animal attempts to escape from the other animal that is trying to have sex with it. Scientists have long noted that female ducks have, likely due to the prevalence of rape by male ducks, evolved more complex genitals to thwart male penetration/forced insemination. If nonconsensual sex is a thing in the animal world, then we must accept to some degree there is a concept of sex.
Also. Once again. Why are we drawing the line HERE. Why is "hey we shouldn't romanticize rape" the line that things MUST be drawn at - and that the mass humanization of animals throughout the story by depicting them as humans, having interspecies love relationship, experiencing long term partnerships and monogamy outside of the species it actually occurs in is all totally okay and does not count towards humanizing animals?
The ethics of meat consumption and eating other animals is also a theme, though much lighter than the overall themes of sex and romance, throughout the story. Predators that are depicted as eating other animals or hurting other animals are depicted in a negative light when they do so. The SECOND CHAPTER depicts the protagonist losing control, trying to eat the musk deer, and regretting it/feeling ashamed of it.
The animals in this story are constantly depicted as feeling human emotions, living to human standards, and behaving as.. well... for the most part, humans with a wild side. Which you say is okay "for the sake of yaoi". But when someone says "hey it's not ok that it romanticizes rape/the fact everyone in the comments is going uwu the rapist is so cute uwu/its depicting the rape victim as falling in love with the rapist (which, btw, is completely unrealistic as well, in multiple respects)" THAT'S where the line is drawn on humanized animal behavior?
See... I don’t have an inherent issue with them
having sex — it’s a possible reaction to the trauma, especially considering Chung is a CSA survivor.
The issue is . The dialogue. When being told Chung was raped and marked all over, the response is “please don’t provoke me” and then, even worse, followed with, “I want to be gentle, so..”
If you don’t get what he’s saying here: Chung’s comment made the top feel more aggressive and want to be rough with Chung. As in, the whole, reclaiming property sort of shit. Chung was raped by his brother and he has the urge to be aggressive and take back what Chung ‘gave’ to his brother - implying he has to
fight back the urge when Chung makes that comment.
It makes it sound like he does not see Chung as a person, but his property. Which is really gross.
Also, this isn’t the first instance of the top viewing Chung as his property. In chapters 20-21 Chung attempts to reject the top, and the top becomes angry, tells him he doesn’t have a choice/he doesn’t get a say, and. Well. Rapes him. There’s no other way around it. The top forced Chung to have sex with him because he was angry that Chung tried to turn him down.
I’m guessing the author isn’t going to address that the top has literally viewed Chung as his property and not as an individual on more than one occasion, since that’s unfortunately common in these stories.
Author is a coward for making Koju turn into a kemonomimi for their happy ever after instead of leaving him a beast man.
Anyways I hate the “i’m you’re adoptive dad but i’ve always loved you so i never saw u as my dad so we can bang now” dynamic (which is more common than you’d think?) and i wish there was like some logic behind why Shizuka was suddenly in love love with him and no longer saw him as Koju’s dad - but also this is literally just a yaoi version of a trashy erotica novel so I
shouldn’t expect anything well-thought-out from it besides for porn lmao
i explained in the second half of my comment, but to further clarify, since the author decided to have Shizuka deny and refuse Koju’s advances because they are family, and because his love for Koju is strictly familial, i think the story needed an actual explanation for why Shizuka suddenly feels romantic/sexual attraction for Koju and no longer sees him as like. Just his son. Bcus the way it was done was bad.
And I also said it’s literally a trashy romance novel so it’s fine lmao.
also tbh the grammar of the title is weird, i don’t know if it’s correct? and that confused me, i’ll admit. bcus they’re using the apostrophe s as a shortened form of is, but idk if that’s grammatically correct here?
I have. Many thoughts on this but the main story end was so super disappointing.
I hate hate hate the “but i was just writing characters in a story!” twist and literally am refusing to interpret that as anything but non canonical.
I hate that we weren’t given a proper resolution but i’m choosing to believe it will be followed up.
Tho there’s really no logical reason why they would end up leaving the protected area, besides for being infatuated with the idea of freedom, even towards the end it’s pretty clear Serval is like. Nah i’m gonna go back it’s not worth it here. But it’s a vague ending for some reason so who knows.
There really wasn’t like a nice follow up or resolution on any of the other couples besides for Puma and Whote Lion - How are Beluga and Sperm Whale doing now? Did Bottom-Snake recover and get to be released into the wild with Top-Bunny like the other Snake and Bunny? Are those two doing ok in the wild? Are the ... Wildebeest (? Or Ox... or somethin) and the Red Panda a proper couple? Is Musk Deer implies to get with the Sand Cat?
I guess we’ll see where it goes from here but I’m disappointed to say the least.
ugh i hope they dont fuck in the next chapter. my least favorite trope is "no we shouldnt have sex youre traumatized" "but i wanna have sex bcus im traumatized" "ik thats why we shouldnt" "but-" "ok lets have sex.
