I am not even going to discuss this, but I’m going to put it out there for you as a good for thought. Feel free to disagree.
She literally taught him that it’s wrong to steal and then gave him a job... I’m not even rich, and even I would smack that kid. I discipline my younger siblings with a smack to the head, and they’re 7-8 years old. Clearly, she wasn’t smacking the kid to beat them up. It was a disciplinary smack. No kid is “too young” to understand right from wrong. If you treat them like they don’t know any better, you’re setting them up to act spoiled and entitled.
The smack isn’t meant to hurt them, it’s to serve as a warning that when you do bad things, worse things will happen to you. It’s cause and effect. If you steal, you’ll die stealing or go to jail/serve probation for stealing. You don’t know what kind of person you’re stealing from. Even I would react badly if someone stole my things. The kid was lucky, he didn’t steal from the wrong person.
I have no doubt that people who have to resort to stealing to survive have it bad. And they deserve kindness—a little kindness goes a long way. I think that is exactly what Satie offered the kid. She prevented them from living a life of thievery, and offered them a job. They even offered a down payment in advance of completing the job. Had it been any other rich person, the kid probably would have gotten beaten half to death if not to death.
Satie has done well. A smack is not all that painful...trust me. Anyway, she taught him that it's not right to steal just because you are poor. It's true that we do, in certain countries where there is tyranny and corruption, and where people must compromise with their ideals in order to survive...however, it's still good to know that it's not right. Self-awareness is important. I'm glad his situation will get better from now on. His sister will be freed, at least.
I often see that kind of diciplinary punishment in manga or manhwa i read. Eventhough, in my country.. we don't resolve to that.. but i don't find that smack is unagreeable. (⌒▽⌒) Satie did a good job at dealing with the kid.

Yea, we don't want to eat the rich, just make the world a little less unequal. ^_^
Then gurl, you don't know ghe true meaning of discipline. In asian countries or other countries of that matter those smacks serve as a warning, parents who give those don't smack their children just for fun or embarrasing them. They do this with heavy heart and also hope that it will teach them a lesson. My cousins and I and some friends our age got those smacks and we grew up pretty decent. Most children who wasn't disciplined this way grew up with bad attitudes. I'm not saying that parents should smack the hell out of their kids but there should be a limit to it and they should always talk to their children before and after smacks as part of the discipline too.

Im so sorry to know there are parents that think that smacking, be it hard or """just disciplinary"" as some of you put it, is ok. when it's not. If the child is old enough to understand what's wrong then you just talk with them, if the child isn't old enough to understand that then they won't even be able to actually understand why they're being smacked. Im from a country where it's normal to see parents using this kind of discipline to teach their children too, and when you say "i grew up pretty decent" i don't think so, because in the next sentence you're defending the smacking as a form of discipline, which is wrong in every context. You may have grown up without bad attitudes but you definitely grew up to normalice physical punishment.

let's divide this; first part is going to be reality and then the reality within the manhwa. Okay so, you're telling me you're okay with pysically punching your younger siblings? you won't try to talk to them and teach them with words and other logical and modern techniques. noted.
I'd like to point out that yes, kids are too young to understand right or wrong, no kid is born knowing this and that's why you have to guide them and teach them correctly, but i see that's where you are failing your little brothers, just like your family failed you.
"the smacking it's to serve as a warning" so you're not actually teaching them to understand what's right or wrong, you're teaching them based in fear and not to question why.
Now within the manwha, I really blame the monarchy for not being able to handle well the situation, I mean that kid sister was sold as a slave and they were so poorly dressed, covered in mud, starved, etc. at what 12yo? is that a good way to handle the population?
Sattie did give a job to that kid, yes. but what about the rest of the people?
and last but not least, we've seen the castles and palaces, the multiple dresses sattie has bought and the multiple parties they've thrown and then we see this city and its citizens in poverty. that only proves my point that in that case it's okay to eat the rich.

Okay, I said I wasn’t going to discuss, but I also have zero self control when I tell myself I’m not going to respond.
1) I never said to punch anyone.
2) it’s a given that you give a verbal warning, and follow up with action. If you are baking cookies, and have a plate of warm cookies in front of a kid, and you warm them not to touch them, of course, you will smack their hand away. A light smack serves as a warning that if they attempt again, the smack will get harder (enough to startle, and maybe some pain—because you know, pain receptors are a thing—but not enough to bruise or draw blood) There is a difference between a smack to warn (discipline), and a smack with the intention to harm (abuse). I do not believe in excessive force. I, myself, am more inclined to yell, rant, and nag. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t smack when I’m annoyed/irritated on occasion. I find words much more effective to communicate my disappointment. That, and I firmly believe that if you hit someone, you should expect to be hit back. I’m a small person, and I am not a person who packs a punch

Well, it is the system that creates inequality, but the purchases she makes can also help create jobs. It's a cycle. The poor will remain poor and the rich will remain rich. The system itself is flawed. I don't think this is one particular person's fault either. If anything, should we blame our long-dead ancestors?

you don't need to write 6 points with the first two i already know enough; you're a person with no self control that would and actively will resort to violence. So there's no need to keep wasting my time trying to reason with someone that admits that can't act like a civilized person

It’s funny how you’re assuming that violence would be my first response to a situation. Your way of thinking is a bit too extreme for me. In no way do I think what Satie did was violence. There is a line between discipline and violence, and there is no reason for me to believe that Satie crossed that line. Clearly we have different beliefs in how to discipline. If you want to assume that I’m a violent person who physically abuses, I’ll go ahead and assume you must be the opposite of me, and just like verbally abusing others. Clearly you’re not open-minded or willing to discuss, so I’ll save you the trouble of responding anymore than this. Peace out.
