This is my first question, I don't even know if I'm asking it in the right place, but I feel as though this is something that really should be talked about, as I've seen a pretty big issue on this website.

The main issue is some of the younger Yaoi fans/Fujoshis, and the way that yaoi affects how they perceive gay people, specifically men.

But before that, let's talk about the term Fujoshi and Fudanshi. They both literally translate to "Rotten Girl" and "Rotten Boy". It's honestly up to you if you want to refer to yourself as that, but I don't recommend that since it has vaguely homophobic undertones. Like, why do people refer to others as "rotten" for consuming LGBTQ+ stories and content?

Alright, now, for the big thing. There is a MAJOR issue with people fetishizing gay men on this website, and they are all primarily younger girls, who aren't in the LGBTQ+ community. I guess these girls don't quite understand that Yaoi is primarily made for and by straight women, and since they tend to be so young, I guess they just start to assume that gay dudes are hot, and being a gay dude is hot, and that fucking a gay dude is hot.

I've seen examples of this in real life, and in comments on this website. In real life, I've seen girls point to my gay friend and his bf saying something along the lines of "Look! Yaoi in real life!". Or some have found out he's gay, and immediately went "are you seme or uke?" Which, first of all, is a VERY personal question, and second of all, using the japanese terms for top and bottom give away that their mind set was created by yaoi and stuff lmao-

More instances are people on this website. One question was asking "If you changed gender and sex for a day, what would you do?" And almost all of the answers were "I'd find me a seme/uke" Or "I'd live out my yaoi dream". Being gay is not all condoms and rainbows.

Another one was a rather wholesome post about someone's father, who began dating a man, and they said "It's like I'm living the yaoi life". About their DAD'S RELATIONSHIP

YA'LL I- C'MON MAN, COMMON SENSE BRUH- If you're reading this good for your dad tough hope he's living life

IN CONCLUSION: Yaoi perpetuates many stereotypes about gay men, and I'd write more but no one wants to read all that. Gay men are not for your consumption, not all femenine/skinny dudes are bottoms, and not all masculine/muscular dudes are tops. Stop being gross about people loving people.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

There are some Fujodanshis who made things too far, thinking that the things we've read is the same as what's happening in the real life of gays. I prefer real life gay men to be left alone, stop assumming and questioning them about both their private life and relationships. I have a few gay friends but not even once I've ask who's the top or bottom and I didn't even tell them that I read Yaoi. We all deserve some privacy ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Bruh I'm so glad that you addressed this and I completely agree. You should turn this into a post on this site, because I think it would be good for more people to be able to see and respond to this (since things posted under questions often get overlooked). I also want to see other people's responses to it.

Honestly yeah I agree. To any young girls reading this, YAOI IS DIFFERENT FROM REAL LIFE. Yaoi is basically a fictional story, which is why the characters are so attractive (because its a manga). Also the reason why everything sails so smoothly. If you ever see a gay couple in real life, please don't compare them with yaoi. Nor should you ship every hot guy you see with another hot guy. A story is a story. But real life is real life. Separate those two, and if you can't then you should probably stop reading lol.

ahh yes 100% agree with you. people really need to learn to separate reality and their fantasies. i honestly have no problem with people who read yaoi because i read it too, but it's a WAY different story if it's people reading yaoi STRICTLY for the sex and nothing more (plot, characters, etc.) like you said are mostly young girls not a part of the lgbtq+ communityl

I mean i started reading yaoi in 5th or 6th grade. But I hope other people aren't that clueless about how real life works. As a kid it kinda started out with more shounen ai but as I grew up it became yaoi. But yeah I can understand cuz if guys went up to me and shipped me with my best friend. Id bitch slap them.

I don't recall saying that all younger yaoi fans are disrespectful. I did, however, say that most of the disrespectful people tend to be on the younger side of things. I'm sorry if you misinterpreted it, though I went through the post many times to ensure that wouldn't happen. Unfortunately people misread all the time. Thanks for the feedback

as someone coming from a similar age group, we don't claim anyone who fetishizes gay relationships. <3
