Most people have already spoiled it but in short, he actually is that guy and is just pretending he is not so this time around, they can be in a relationship.
The MC ended up killing himself the first time around and, to make sure they meet in the next life, ML made a deal with a shaman to tie their souls together even though MC's soul begged the shaman not to do it.
He orchestrated everything from their first meet in the new life, to MC having no friends, to him being kidnapped by a guy who looks similar to him and later on installed cameras everywhere in his house just to ensure everything goes as it should. Eventually, he dropped the crazy because MC started trusting him but the gist of it is that he will never let MC go away from him.
Their relationship at the end seems happy though and he actually treats him well this time around so... there's that.
