okay so yes this is surely dark and psychologically twisted. it also has two very complex and broken individuals, so there is more to the story than a lot of people note. so far this story (up to chapter 13) is quite similar to real life crime stories - so when people talk this up as being horrible, violent, and completely unbearable... it is and so is real life crime so take it with a grain of salt... you have two broken individuals with pretty deplorable pasts attempting to survive whatever way possible - for one it is the choosing between the lesser of two evils and for the other it is attempting to sustain a certain "feeling." the means they employ are obviously not the best by any means. so although this one is twisted, in my opinion there are more psychologically twisted mangas on here and this one does keep you wondering what the heck will happen next, because these two definitely do not seem to behave according to any sort of logic.
in regard to how this normalizes different types of abuse, i wouldn't exactly say it normalizes it simply due to exposure. (maybe it is just me but...) i do not particularly root for any of the mcs. it is quite clear from the get go that this is not going to end well, i do not feel that most people start reading this and think that either mc is in the "right". the story begs questions: will he get caught? will he escape? what is he thinking? how long will this go on? how far will this go? i am interested in the when/how will he get caught/escape? aspect. --- however, i can and do understand how this can be hurtful/damaging to people that have been in abusive relationships/environments and that seeing images from this pop up on tumblr or anywhere else can trigger strong emotional responses. abuse is definitely not something people "get over" it becomes something that people learn to live with everyday.
true crime readers will note that this story is very similar to at least three major crime stories that occurred in recent times ( the last 30 years) in the United States, Japan, and Mexico. so for me personally it is similar to watching an episode of criminal minds or one of those investigation discovery programs. i understand i am watching a work of fiction, i understand there will be violence, sexual content, strong language, and i can certainly see that this was inspired by true events.
that's just my two cents on the content. i am merely providing my opinion, you are by all means entitled to disagree or agree. I can understand both sides of the argument as to how this manga is "good"/"bad" - i just happen to land on the side that accepts this as a work of fiction that will end in tragedy.
I agree with you. I don't really get the uproar of issues from this manga (must be the fandom getting it to trend) it could really trigger some sensitive people or displease people who have had tragically experienced abuse. As far as i'm concerned it doesn't normalize anything, the story and even the way the characters act isn't normal(they were literally hiding and afraid of society ffs and it's NOT NORMAL, there is something wrong). The fandom could get a little giddy sometimes, i get it some people can easily differentiate and separate fiction and reality, it just happen to cater, such emotionally driven fandom and somehow focuses in two people who has a possibility to be romantically involved. i hope that this manwha can provide entertainment as well as awareness. I hope everyone could just enjoy the story without being labeled as a psycho or a basher or whatnot( bc really?! with all the movies of pschological, thriller horror gore out there and we're arguing about this?). as for me, i just want to know the conclusion to this as a piece of fiction that caught my attention and curiousity.
gah need more! want more! more updates, pretty please <3
