I didn't get why I felt so weird and frustrated at the backstory with Ian until going through everyone's comments so far. After rereading the last chapters of the present timeline, now I can finally articulate it. There was no conclusion to Ian's insecurity or worries, the heightening tensions that Sol did nothing to address or refused to acknowledge Ian as an individual who can handle information.
Reincarnation or not, Brian and Ian feel like two SEPARATE characters reading it so watching a love story of a creation of a nation where Ian is stranded in where no one is willing to be honest with him is a stressing reading experience.
AND the flashback still does NOT feel like it's going to end anytime soon, even though it has feels like a millennia already. There's too many unanswered questions on how where at the current tensions between the nations.
Hell, I don't even like the how his name "Ian" technically feels like a ripoff of the name "Brian" whether we like it or not the story is pushing for over 30 CHAPTERS how Ian is a shadow of what Brian was, someone who can't handle Sol being forthright with, can't solve his own problems, can't be his own person.
