Cannot believe he has the audacity to sulk so openly despite being the one who refuses to communicate properly, leaving Catherine (and everyone else) confused. Also, for some reason I didn’t picture the emperor as looking so young in my head—despite what Catherine thinks, the emperor’s appearance was just altered to look like Chezare, they’re not actually related. Chezare’s never even had an interest in relationships until he met Catherine as Mars 600 years prior (and had been down bad ever since).
Aww, the cut the sweet knight that’s actually supposed to be escorting Catherine here (Damian just sort of tags along to avoid meeting his father). He’s shocked that Chezare is even speaking to her one on one like that like at all. He might be acting cold to her right now but he’s still far less cold and indifferent to her than pretty much everyone else (and he’s only pushing her away because she physically can’t handle being near him…for now).
I have no idea how y’all didn’t see where that flashback was going or why it existed at all when we’ve had the answers all along, especially when you consider how clear it’s been that Ian’s been lied to and manipulated by Brexton since they met—it would be to his disadvantage if Ian ever remembered anything of his final days as Brian. It did, however, take far too long to get to this point because it’s been forever since anything to do with Ian has been addressed in the first place. Neither dragon can get over Brian, it’s just that one would rather he never remembered and the other hasn’t made it clear that it doesn’t matter whether he does or not (even if he generally has good intentions). But christ, I can barely remember even that much and imma have to go reread from the start.
I swear, season 4 of tybw (yes there’s gonna be 4) better finish off that end fight properly because rereading it years later only reminded me of how jarring that 10 year time-skip was and how shocking it was to get another glimpse at the aftermath so many years after the series ended. But I suppose that’s probably the point.
No shade, but when is Phil going to clue in on how off things are? She’s still so convinced that the content of the suspicious book she read in the past are some kind of gospel truth that she can barely acknowledge the fact that her actions have had a butterfly effect and have consequently changed the course of events. Like, please spoil me, the story is interesting but her resignation to a terrible fate she’s likely already prevented through her proactiveness is very depressing.
I think it’s important to note that Hak was one of the closest people to Soowon before all of this happened, just as close as Yona but in a different way. Honestly I’ve also been waiting for some kind of meaningful interaction (since high school like many) between the two of them that specifically references the relationship they had with each other outside Yona. Hak was betrayed just as much as she was in the coup—Soowon tried to kill people he cares for deeply without explanation (and Hak too for getting in the way) . But none of that can erase the fact that they spent their lives together and knew each other well. Yona has similar mixed feelings Hak didn’t know the circumstances behind Soowon’s actions, now that he does, he understands the reasoning behind them and the pressure involved. It doesn’t mean he’s forgiven Soowon, but that he understands enough to be willing to work with him and put hostilities aside temporarily for the sake of that shared past. It’s a really important character moment. Even the conversation they have about the armour is the kind of thing they might have had before. Soowon did terrible things but he was also visibly working just as hard to fix their country for the better (something more obvious now, just as Il’s incompetence is also more evident), which I think is a huge part of why Hak believes could have been different. He just spent months trying to do the same. It never had to be like this. (I’m not forgiving him either, it’s about understanding). Idk what I’m trying to say because I’ve been up all night. Like they had their own thing that was broken by proxy and never addressed it.
My brother in christ, the only thing keeping that world together is that substitute all-powerful chaos demon and the wish-granting regressed son of god (in love with her), get that stick out of your arse and drop the self-righteous act…or whatever there’s a lot going on here. I was kind of upset the pacing of the story got so out of control, but this series is more about the parody than the plot and the “demon duke of the north” actually being an angel is kind of funny.
