Might trigger the others, but I actually agree with Tess here. She's not asking him to accept her or return her feelings, only that he take the matter seriously. Though I'm sure Arthur means well and his way of joking about it is his way of being considerate, for these girls who mustered up an enormous amount of courage to confess, Arthur's actions actually hurt them more. He could have acknowledged their feelings and then firmly but gently tell them he's not interested in romantic relationships. There. Done. With how these girls are portrayed, I don't think anyone would hold a grudge against him for it.
Anddd although I'm pretty bummed that we're going the romance route, this is actually a very interesting character development for our MC. He's already grown physically strong, socially adept, and smart. We can already feel that if he encounters other problems relating to these, he'll be able to overcome it. We expect it from him. But Arthur hasn't really encountered an emotional obstacle that makes him reflect on his own character in this manner.

Without a good head on your shoulders, you'll just lead your country to ruins. Plus, prudence is one of the cardinal virtues upon which other virtues can be built.
