I do understand political marriages.
A lot of people are under the impression that he was doing it just for the throne, but if he hadn't gotten married hundreds of soldiers would die on both sides, and the war would rage on.
She understands as well. But she also still has every right to feel hurt, since she didn't expect him to be in a position that would make him marry and take in concubines for foreign connections, trade policies, and treaties.
My guess is that he will go to her within five years, when she does collect all of her concubines, because it does seem he genuinely loves her.
His current wife and him do not love each other. Both of them are hurting because they are put in a political marriage and do resent each other.
Marriages for love for royalty in history are a privilege, and even still today in many countries, which is something I don't think many people understand. Many people are in unfortunate economic places and need to marry into rich families, perhaps on a greater scale to bridge family gaps, or simply do not have time to fall in love but still need to have a family.
I'm under the impression that people are expecting him to just say no or not marry her or take in concubines. In that case, what would happen to the soldiers? To the economy? Relationships between countries? Trade systems?
She has every single right to be heartbroken and he is good that he doesn't force her to stay with him. I hope he understands that she doesn't still owe him their relationship, however, because their relationship was made on the grounds of monogomy.
