Noo, he loved the mother so much, he loved her despite the nobles and all the people who disapprove her, he bear it all, about her being a mere dancer and a disgrace to him, idk i feel like he take it all and kept it for himself just to be with her, and then she just died, simply cause she has chosen her daughter over herself. And over being with him forever, basically over him too, i know she loved both that's why she made that choice, but for him i think he has all the right to push Athi away. I know she didn't do anything to deserve that and all but the fact that he used black magic to suppress his feelings can show how much he's hurt.
