I think it's a set up for them to be friends. She's got to end up with Ren (or there's going to be hell to pay from the readers) but she and Shou could be great friends. Shou's confused his feelings for her - I think - because he cares deeply fro her and knew that she used to love him.
I can work with that and it would be even better if he ends up with one of her more difficult friends so he knows how it feels to deal with a girl who has standards and won't put up with his crap.
I put off reading any chapters no matter how tempted I was since spring so that I could have a marathon read. I had left off at the part where they were in Guam. I had already been feeling weird about Shou ever since the location shoot with Vie Ghoul and now I'm having even more issues. He's nearly completely dropped the making her hate him thing and has gone into full on protector mode. It pisses me off that the mangaka did that because it makes him an ass but a likeable ass. I want to only cheer on Ren but at the same time my deluded brain thinks it's too bad she can't have both. It would be unique at least. Having a shoujo eventually end with the heroine having two male lovers. We know she's going to end up with Ren but now I actually feel bad for what's going to happen to Shou. I actually want him to end up with someone decent and have his playboy ways go away. Maybe he can be the godfather of Ren and Kyouko's future babies.
