Are you talking about how people call her “-kun” since she looks and dresses like a male? If so, that is actually pretty common.
The "-kun" when addressing females, commonly used by certain professions as a general honorific for their subordinates and/or equals that shows a bit more respect than just -san or -chan. "-kun" includes the subordinate as a member of you peer group which is why in the particular instance it can be more respectful than "-san" or “-chan”. You could see that Kou-kun is really good at games and such, so that is one way you could see her as respectable. In other words, when addressing a female as “-kun”, it means you’re close friends, family member or you respect that person.

Uhhhh, yes and no. Thank you for clarifying the "-kun" part. But I was also wondering if it would be wrong to call Kou-kun they instead of she, if Kou-kun didn't identify as they. I feel as though the raws would tell us the pronouns, possibly.
So please correct me if I come across as such... But Kou-kun being called they instead would be detrimental to the importances of pronouns. But I do know that sometime Japanese doesn't use pronouns when discussing a topic if it is obvious, or they have neutral terms.
And the importance of outward appearance is scary. So maybe if Kou-kun would experiment with it it could help with the anxiety she** is facing. I wouldn't want to insult her and say she looks dull but I know when I enter a manic low I dress dully to not draw attention to myself and my problems-- if that makes sense.
