so i'm rereading older chapters, and the whole big issue with nick and louis was that in order for nick to take over the company, he had to get married right? but they live in modern day new york (unless i interpreted that wrong) , and theo even mentioned the possibility of nick and louis' marriage, so why did they have to break up? the only requirement for nick is that he had to get married, not to any specific gender? he could have just married louis? maybe i'm just dumb.

since this story is from Japan's perspective, in Japan two man can't get married! no matter what you do, it isn't legal there even if you get married in another country it still won't be legal from the family point of view.
besides I don't think Nick really provides any reason to break up with Louis, it just seems he plays with him all this time only to mass around with his feelings more by inviting him to the weeding what really fuck up.

The only thing I can think of is arranged marriages, those are still a thing right? but seriously, I feel zero sympathy for Nick. Don’t even give him a redemption ark, I don’t want it.

Idk abt the japanese perspective argument because CTK usually does a good job with western settings. i think nick’s issue here would be: (1) the homophobic and toxic environment, especially his father, (2) maybe also the need to produce an heir to continue the lineage, since he comes from old money i think they would prefer a biological offspring and would look down on an adopted one, (3) i also think a partner from the same social circle would be more acceptable and (4) finally, as you said, that he’s just a shitty insensitive human being, i dont like the way he treated louis, talks abt him and how he broke it off with him, it makes louis look like a side chick and just used as a distraction until he found a marriageable partner.
But the thing is that they were in a relationship for 7 YEARS.. like idk thats pretty long if you ask me.. how did he get over it so fast? Was it THAT easy to break up? No remorse ? No lingering feelings? Why did he stick in a SEVEN year long relationship if it was that easy for him to get it done with?
