Kinda dissapointed

I've been reading this manga since it was first uploaded, and at first, I was really enjoying Arte's story. The manga had a really interesting take on late Renaissance Venice, including its more optimistic view on how gender was viewed back then. However, after study art history and learning about the actual Artemisa Gentileschi, which this manga is presumably named after, it's really disappointing to see how little of Gentileschi's life is incorporated into this. Especially the newer chapters that indicate certain feelings towards Leo, her master, when historically what her outside mentor did to her was horrible... Also, the real Gentileschi was really cool and suggest any art nerds go check her works and life story out!

Yes her works are truly amazing, I remember the first painting I saw from her was the painting of her stabbing a dude in the neck, which after hearing her story I can get an idea about the reasoning for that painting. I can’t remember much, but she truly had a very rough life being raped, then at the trail for the rape she was tortured with thumbscrews. Even with all that she continued working hard, truly an artist to be admired. I actually didn’t notice that manga was named after her until I read your comment. Though I do still enjoy the story. It is a little disappointing.

Exactly!!! Especially because the person who attempted to assault her was her perspective mentor, who was known to be a child groomer, starting to groom her at around age 15~17. Honestly, I would love to read the story of Artemisia Gentileschi and how she defied market demand for sexist portrayals of biblical stories, choosing violent and graphic scenes of women defying the oppressors in their life.

I just looked her up and I don't think you should feel disappointed. While the author may have been inspired enough by Artemisa to give her character the name Arte they are most definitely meant to be completely different people. Their background and how they came into their craft are so completely different that the only thing they really have in common is the name.

Wow, I didnt know her name was inspired on a real person, that's really interesting!
But yeah, like the previous comment said, the name it's probably more likely to be in honor of the person than an actual bibliography or something like that.
As for the romance... this series it's a seinen soooo idk, if it was shoujo or josei (that I initially thought it was lol) it would have been a sure thing, but it might get a different developement.
Tho by the characters personalities Im pretty sure there wont be rape, thank god...
