His development is slow for sure because like you stated he’s still jealous. But if you look at it he’s also trying to trust her more by letting her going to his rivals house alone. Which he showed up to pick her up anyway which undo his progress, the small step is that he’s trying. (Also seen with yuki’s coworker who he disliked but was later willing to go on double dates with) This is also with Yuki as well since she still holds in her thoughts. Basically the both of them are trying to change for the better but of course bad habits are hard to get rid of. People don’t change in a day, you see it overtime in the small steps they take to go out of their comfort zone. Hope that helped. You don’t have to agree with me that he is changing, but thank you for wanting to have a conversation about it to understand.
I’ve read that a lot of the comments are frustrated with naruse on the latest chapter...and I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone but I have to disagree with a lot of people.
Here’s my reasons why. Naruse has good character development, he’s opened up in certain times and have let Yuki see his more vulnerable sides. He may be pushy and blunt but he also knows not to force Yuki into doing something that would make her unhappy. He values her thoughts a lot more than he leads on. This story is about these two teenagers understanding and growing to communicate with each other in the relationship as they grow into adulthood. Both the mcs are not without fault because they jump to conclusions without discussion. And that has been the basis of this manga with both of them overthinking or the lack of communication and it is why this is such an angst type of read. But we do see that the characters are developing by them working through their insecurities and misunderstandings. (Which is highly coming from Yuki’s part because she’s so insecure with herself and the relationship due to her being the oldest and having to grow up so fast to take care of her siblings. She’s never had anything of her own and she used to give up easily. But she is growing to learn to open up and hold onto what she wants now, which is great. This is also on naruse’s part Because he’s still not out of the stage of possessiveness borderline on almost toxic because he’s petty when there’s other guys who see Yuki for being the hardworking super girl that she is. We see that he’s trying to trust Yuki though which is his growth).
As for the last scene we can obviously get that this is going to be an issue because fuuka is just seeing a portion of what happened and she doesn’t know the whole story. Yes, it’s not a good feeling to have your bf consoling his ex, but would you want a heartless jerk who would leave a crying girl knowing her situation? She’s a sweet girl so far and obviously has it rough with her mom and being in the situation where she has to get multiple jobs to get by. The only part where I say this would be fucked up is if the next chapter naruse doesn’t tell Yuki what happened in full. If he doesn’t communicate to Yuki about the situation before her friend tells her a bridged version, then the mistrust and misunderstandings is going to ruin this relationship. (And honestly from what I’ve read so far it might just be that way because as wholesome as this is , it is also full of heart jerking moments with this manga). Anyway sorry I had to vent seeing as how many people were jumping to throw naruse to the wolves and making a lot of people discouraged in reading this beautiful piece. The artist deserves all the love because first relationships are all about trial and error and for whoever that wants to read this, I recommend that you should. Who knows, you might learn something about yourself as a growing teen/ adult because the experiences of these characters could give you an insight on your own mental headspace. Go for things you’re afraid of, good things won’t automatically fall in your lap, love is a two way street, feeling jealous and insecure but overcoming that is apart of growing up, learning to see where the other person is coming from, and success comes with failed attempts but that just means it’s worth the effort because nothing worth it is easy.
