It's a lot more common than you think. Outside the readers' circle, cp is generally abbreviated for child p*rn (though this is the first time in my life I've ever even hear of the term "couple pair".

bc it literally is a common abbreviation and ppl advise against not using it. i didnt know about couple pair, never seen that before literally just now. advising someone against using a term to refer to abhorrent shit like the aforementioned is not an issue and i didnt like. mean anything bad by letting them know. i meant it in like a heads up.

Okay thanks, btw CP was actually character pairing/coupling not couple pairing I was dumb at that part... And yes I did look up CP meaning and it did show child p*rnagraphy as well as cerebral palsy.

I don't think you should prevent someone from using an abbreviation just because there's a taboo topic associated with the abbreviation. It was pretty obvious that the cp that the op was talking about was not the cp that gaypeople thought of. Just my personal opinion on it though.

i mean i said before- i didnt know what ‘couple pairing’ cp (both as an abbreviation and a term) in the context meant and in general i do think it is like. an important thing to keep in mind when abbreviating something to something else that is like a real thing people may recognize as something else. and u wouldnt want ppl who dont know the abbreviation to look up cp and get child p*rn results bc thats very concerning. ppl who dont know what couple pairing is or the abbreviation ‘cp’ might look it up and like. do that.

And as I said before, the context wouldn't make sense if you assumed that it meant child pornography. Even if they looked it up most people wouldn't assume what you did. I asked my sister what she thought of when she heard the abbreviation cp and she said checkpoint. In this context it is obvious that they were talking about the second couple, even if you didn't know what they meant by cp. So long as you have half a braincell you'd be able to infer what they meant. You're literally making a big deal out of it for nothing. Thank you for voicing your thoughts and warning them but please don't try to force your thoughts on them. Nothing wrong with saying cp and now you know that cp can also stand for character pairing so you can avoid the misunderstanding in the future if another person uses it.
