Actually Soah is not part of the actual myth, the author of this manwha built the story based on the myth of Habaek but a lot of characters in this manwha are the author's creations.. The actual myth is mainly about Haemosu, the son of heaven, and Youwha the daughter of water God (Habaek)
but honetly Youwha"s story is kind of terrible isn't it???? She is stolen by the Haemosu, then her father and Haemosu compete against each other to see whether Haemosu is worthy of her and then when she runs away from Haemosu back to her father he ties her tongue to a river and she becomes the concubine of a humank king who rescues her. But Haemosu intervens and impregnats her with a sun ray(????). And she gives birth to his son.
Yep I know it's terrible right? Except Youwha never ran away from Haemosu, Haemosu ran away from her after breaking out of the carriage on the way to heaven (Habaek sealed this carriage with Haemosu and Youwha in it so that his daughter would get to the heaven without being dumped beforehand but it happened anyway) and Youwha got punished by her father for having inappropriate relationship before marriage. So the point of this story is that Haemosu was an asshole who just wanted fool around without intention of marrying the girl basically lol well at least that was my understanding when I first learnt this story at school
i googled Habeak and i got the actual myth. but the internet is not that reliable and i actually want to talk to someone who grew up in Korea about the myth. soah is not mentioned in the myth and the story is centered more around Willow - Habeak's daughter and Habeak himself.
did Habeak really attach Willow's tongue to a river in the actual myth when Willow ran away from her husband and returned home? or is there more to the story?
