The FL is actually royalty and If I remember correctly she was actually the daughter of the previous emperor (she was born out of a love affair obviously)....
the dad is a bad guy... He isn't even her dad (obviously)
(If I remember correctly) the "dad" also wanted to marry off his "daughter" to the emperor in the future so that he could then kill the emperor... then his "daughter" would become empress and he could have all of the power by controlling his "daughter"
Her mom is a spy for the empress ( I think?? ) And she was forced to marry the FLS dad ( even tho she was madly in love with a commoner) so that she could keep tabs on the FLs dad....
OH and the reason why the ML killed the "empress" on their wedding night was cause he found out that she was actually a spy from the empress... So he felt so hurt and betrayed cause the only person that he thought he could love and trust ( and vise versa ) ended up betraying him
