Because she has said since the beginning he is too calculating. He should show more passion instead of treating this like a test. I don't think he is wrong, but it seems insensitive towards her feelings and perspective of how life should go.

You're not dumb but just saying, as much as I agree with what you said the FL wanted, its also not what she exactly wanted. Basically what she wants is someone who will give her warm love and will be loyal to her. He was loyal sure but with how he said what he said, he was very cold, felt like the kindness and warmth he showed was a facade. Its like how his dad (kind to all but kinda fake) and mom (cold, just cold) was.
