Eventually he met mc and thought he had finally met someone who understands him (mc). At the end mc stays with him knowing what he has done but because ml was always there through her troubles caring for her (that is what she was looking for. A person by her side) They hold hands at the end which gives us a flashback to when Ml said sum to second ml about wanting her to keep reaching for his hand.
