Well he wasn’t dressing as his past lover tho he was just dressed as all women do in there place
true; but his past lover most likely wore a similar/the same style of kimono/whatever that is im not too cultured lol.
based on the situation at hand, he probably introduced his late lover to his father in a situation similar to that. similar events probably happened which triggered him to do what he did.
the basis is: all women dress like that = past lover dressed like that = similar dressing style in this particular situation = flashbacks.

i do think its a bit sudden but also as mentioned tomas mom was killed before, so i have a theory:
maybe hes projecting onto MC as he would for his past lover. like he got flashbacks to when his wife was being harrassed by his brother [most likely] and then started just treating him as he would her in an attempt to feel that same happiness as before.
like hes seeing this person who LOOKS like a woman and is in womans clothing and is dressed as his past lover was and hes thinking "maybe if i treat this person the same, itll be like it was before".
