It's not necessarily girly some guys like their hair long I guess

Good point! But I don't really see him as feminine besides the hair and him playing uke lol

Its not girly. Its manly like a samurai. http://i.stack.imgur.com/7HDiy.jpg

Hmmm...Not sure that is an authentic samurai hairstyle.
I do like senpai's long hair, but I also think it makes him look feminine. In the scene where Morinanga was going to cut his hair I thought he looked especially girly.
I have seen some long hair that looks super masculine either because of the style or the person, but I would think senpai's personality would compel him to have a more typically manly hairdo.
At the same time, I can't even imagine how he would look with short hair.

TBH tho its mostly an American idea that feminine=gay. That beefy butch stuff isnt too popular in Japan.

well long hair = sexy on guys , even more when they r goodlooking . i dunno why u think long hair is girly...i know some manly guys with long hair too. and there r indians (native american for ex.).

I agree on some men long hair is sexy and can be masculine, but on sempai it seems feminine to me.
I simply find it curious that he leaves is long, instead of choosing a more stereo-typically masculine hairstyle.
I really like his hair and can't even imagine what he would look like with short hair, but I still find myself wondering why...

Cultural differences at play. The guys Americans call girly and feminine are not regarded as such in Japan. In Japan he'd just be seen as an ikemen (cool good looking guy).

Woo, can't believe no one comments about the special chapter where Morinaga suggests Senpai to trim the hair. Senpai is very sensitive around his ear and hair part, and can't stand to be touched. So, there Morinaga assumes that's why senpai keeps his hair long. Senpai says he hates to go to hair salon, and usually ask his sister trim it.
There!! That's why... I'm sure.

Think about it. Senpai is openly homophobic. He hates gays yet the writer gave him features society would stereotype as being a homosexual. His lean figure, great hair, no relationship with women (that's got to do with his personality). The mangaka is breaking stereotypes. Who would make the homosexual "appear" feminine?
Look at Morinaga. Nothing about him points at him being gay. He's friendly, sweet and all in all pretty normal. Yet the man is openly gay without any shame whatsoever.
The writer gives a very clear message. There is no need to judge and give "defining" features to an individual to label them. Interesting isn't it?
This manga came out 2004. What a powerful message.

Yes, I agree with you 100%.
And I want to add this:

I seldom see a guy a with long hair look feminine. For the most part long hair is seen on punk rockers, hippies, and bikers. The feminine guys tend to be clean shaven with short hair. And with the exception of like drag queens I've yet to meet a gay man with long hair. I realize there's a culture gap here but....where are getting the idea that hair length is linked to femininity is this maybe a cultural thing?

Do you remember him saying that he cannot stand someone else touching his head? And then morigana proceeds to offer to cut his bang, and then he learns that senpai is extra sensitive around his ears. i think it was an extra.
I believe that's why prefers his hair long so he won't have to let someone touch his head.
Don't get me wrong, I love Souchi's long hair, but I have always wondered why someone who is allegedly so homophobic would keep such a girly hairstyle.
It seems to me like he'd get it cut so that he looked more atypically masculine.
Not that I want him to; I've just found that odd ever since I first began reading this story.
