Gay men read BL, we are the audience too, and any audience has a right to critique a story especially if people visually like them are depicted onscreen and those behaviors can influence how others perceive us. Stop acting like a white knight with your pseudo-intellectualism, just so you can consume your fetish guiltlessly. No art is beyond reproach, and neither are artists when writing characters outside their own lives experience; it is more than valid for non-white audiences to check works depicting them by white authors, so in that same vain I shouldn’t be dismissed for how I think the author is improperly depicting a gay romance especially when there shouldn’t be any hints of a relationship in this pair beyond rapist-survivor.
