i personally liked the anime ending more. it ripped my heart to shreds. also i cant believe this is just 30 chapters when the anime felt like it was over 100 episodes
Can you tell me how was the anime ending? Cause I only ever read the manga
its been years since i watched it so my memory might be blurry. but before that I'm just gonna point out that there's a lot of distinct differences between the manga and the anime. for example in the manga takuto commits su!c!d3 but in the anime it was a bike accident. i don't wanna go into detail with the differences lol
anyway this is the most i can do to summarize the ending:
if I'm not mistaken mitsuki has one final concert before her surgery. takuto gives up his life for her then meruko gives up her life to save takuto. meroko had become an angel because of her sacrifice. mitsuki's surgery is successful. she lives past 13 because meroko and takuto changed her fate thus she cant see shinigami anymore e.g. meroko and takuto. one day meroko (transformed into that tiny bunny plushie) visits mitsuki and leads her outside her house. mitsuki follows meroko around the neighborhood and soon realizes she was being lead to takuto who was carrying his guitar w/ the tiny cat plushie down the road. he was human and alive (because his body was in a coma the whole time from the bike accident) which was a form of second chance given to him for his selflessness in giving up his life for mitsuki. but in exchange, he lost his memories. mitsuki tries to call him out to takuto but her voice was too small because her throat was fresh out of surgery. at the same time meruko's plushie starts flying away. mitsuki manages to get her voice out and scream "thank you" as she sees meroko with her angel wings disappear. takuto turns around confused and says "meruko?" before his eyes widen meaning he remembered everything.
that's how it ends. its pretty open.
You got most of it right... But takuto didn't give up his life for mitsuki, instead he was going to disappear since his memories as a human were coming back and meroko tried to keep him from disappearing because he had already drank the flower of forgetfulness that izumi and meroko had gone to get from the underworld to stop taking from disappearing... Anyways Meroko was not able to stop taking from disappearing and right after... Mitsuki's death (which was in the form of wind) was speedily coming towards her so meroko stopped crying over the loss of takuto and used her body to stop the death... Since meroko died before the concert was over, izumi used his powers to maintain Mitsuki's transformation until the end of the concert... And after that, everything you said was pretty much correct
Every so often I will reread this and I have the anime in a close place in my heart so it is hard to decide which ending I like better as they are kind of different
