why do a lot of a sports manga has been starring shorties lately? >_<V

Maybe cause their height is a disadvantage. A disadvantage that many people in the world share. Sports manga are about struggling to achieve something, and with the characters being shorter, it adds suspense as well as make the character more relatable.
