Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right chicken don't have sex
They do have sex y'know. When they have sex they lay fertilized eggs, but sometimes hens do lay unfertilized eggs(no sex involved), that's how they lay almost every single day without mating.

Eggs sold at markets are not fertilized. The story is creepy because the eggs actually hatched into some weird human chicken thing.
As far as I know, scientifically, chickens can lay eggs without mating(sex). But relating to the story... i dunno
